United States Code provides for the use of the Buy Indian Act to enable government entities to purchase products and services for use by or for the benefit of Indians, limiting competition to Indian enterprises while operating in complete compliance with the applicable procurement regulations.
As well, Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) provide for the utilization of Indian Organizations and Indian-owned Economic Enterprises.
The Buy Indian Act is government policy directing prime contractors to use best efforts to give Indian organizations and Indian-owned economic enterprises the maximum practicable opportunity to participate in subcontracts it awards, to the fullest extent consistent with efficient performance of its contract.
